Winter organ course 2025

Our 2025 winter course will focus on the works of J. Sebastian Bach’s predecessors.
It takes place from Monday 24th to Wednesday 26 February in and around Lyme Regis.

Monday 24 February 2025

09.00 Registration and coffee at St. Michael’s Lyme Regis

09.15 Welcome from Philip Scriven – Lead Tutor

09.30 Influences on JS Bach from 17th century composers and instruments in Germany, France & Italy (Richard Godfrey)

10.45 Depart for Tutorial Session I (11.00–12.40)

13.00 Lunch at The Rock Point Inn, Lyme Regis

14.10 Depart for Tutorial Session II (14.30–16.10)

16.30 Tea at St Michael’s Church, Lyme Regis, followed by Tea at St. Michael’s followed by a Masterclass with Philip Scriven
Participants who wish to take part in this session should prepare the Prelude, Fugue and Ciacona in C major by Buxtehude (BuxWV137) and express their intention/willingness to take part upon arrival for registration. Philip would also like to include the Prelude and Fugue in E minor by Bruhns, as an optional extra.

Opportunity for coaching in keyboard accompaniment, using the Lammermuir continuo organ

13.00 Lunch at The Rock Point

14.15 Exploring the young JS Bach with the Neumeister Collection

15.00 Tea at St Michael’s followed by by Philip Scriven in recital

16.00 Closing remarks and end of the course.
