  • Wednesday 4th July at 7.30pm: Celebrity Recital with Peter King at St Michael’s Church, Lyme Regis

Now organist emeritus at Bath Abbey, Peter King was the abbey’s director of music from 1986 to 2016. Under his direction the choir visited Germany, Holland and France, released eight CDs and broadcast on BBC TV and Radio 3. In 1997 Peter started the abbey’s girls’ choir, which quickly established itself as one of the finest of such choirs, and together with Nicolas Kynaston he was responsible for the design and installation of the new Klais Organ. His eight CDs with Bath Abbey Choir and his 12 CDs on the new abbey organ have been highly acclaimed by critics.

Peter holds the honorary degree of Doctor of Music from the University of Bath. In 2015 he took up the office of President of the Incorporated Association of Organists (IAO).

Peter’s programme will begin with Praeludium in C by Dietrich Buxtehude, continuing with Chaconne in F minor by Johann Pachelbel and the Suite du Second Ton by Jean-Adam Guilain. The second half will include the mighty Prelude and Fugue on BACH by Franz Liszt, Felix Mendelssohn’s Prelude and Fugue in E minor and works by Theodore Dubois and William Lloyd-Webber.
