Serving the South West of England, we have three interlinked objectives:
- To encourage musicians to take up organ playing and to nurture and encourage them in all aspects of their organ training
- To promote the appreciation of the organ and its part in the musical repertoire
- To offer assistance to those who use the organ liturgically or for secular entertainment
Gala musical event to launch newly formed South Wessex Organ Society
A stunning two-part musical event and reception on Sunday 22 October in Lyme Regis will launch the newly formed South Wessex Organ Society.
The event, at St Michael’s Church, will begin at 4pm with a special choral evensong including works by Mozart, Purcell and Praetorius. A choir and string ensemble will be formed especially for the event and will be led by Peter Parshall, the society’s artistic director.
This will be followed at 5pm by a recital from David Halls, Director of Music at Salisbury Cathedral and a patron of the society. David’s programme will include music by Bach, Mendelssohn and Widor.
Finally, there will be a reception and a chance to join the society. No tickets are necessary for any part of the event, and audience members can just turn up; we guarantee a warm welcome and an outstanding musical experience.
