Winter organ course 2024

Our 2024 winter course focussed on the works of J. Sebastian Bach, with an emphasis on the chorale preludes. It took place from Monday 4 to Wednesday 6 March.

09.20 Peter King: The Chorale Preludes, Part 1.

10.45 Depart for Tutorial Session I (11.00–12.40)

13.00 Lunch at The Rock Point Inn, Lyme Regis.

14.10 Depart for Tutorial Session II (14.30–16.10) followed by tea in St Michael’s.

16.30 Tea at St Michael’s Church, Lyme Regis.

17.00 Philip Scriven: Masterclass with selected students. Ends at 1830.

Tuesday 5 March

09.30 Depart by coach for Tiverton.

10.50(approx.) Arrive at St Peter’s Church, Tiverton. Coffee wil be available.

11.15 Peter King: The Chorale Preludes, Part 2.

12.45 Lunch (packed and supplied by The Rock Point Inn) and the opportunity for participants to play the fine organ in St Peter’s.

14.15 Andrew Millington: Interpreting Bach on an English organ.

15.15 Andrew Millington: Masterclass with 4 students.

16.15 Depart by coach for Lyme Regis.

19.00 Course dinner at The Rock Point with guest speaker.

Wednesday 7 March

09.30 Peter Lea-Cox: Bach and key/temperament, with special emphasis on the Chorale Preludes.

10.45 Depart for Tutorial Session 3 (11.00–12.40)

13.00 Lunch at The Rock Point.

14.15 Ian Curror: Bach and spirituality.
